Real Santa Clara vs Dinamo (2-1 win)

After a much anticipated first game of the season we were excited to get our first victory. During the pregame strategy session, Jerry mentioned the following. Since we have not played in some time "the mind may be a bit quicker than the body to react." He was correct. We were very very rusty. However, the team we played just came up from the second division and they were quite frankly not very good. It was the team we needed to play to get back into the groove.

The first half started with some good plays including a strike from Izzy which hit the cross bar and went out. Izzy had another similar play later on in the game. A very inspired play by Peter in the back assured that the defense not let up any goals. Although we had our chances upfront nothing seemed to materialize.

0-0 halftime score

The early second half is when we were able to put some nice plays together which eventually led to a Sergey blast into the right upper V of the net. The second goal was also a nice cross from Izzy, a fake kick from Carlos (give him the benefit of the doubt) and once again Sergey rolled it in to the left side of a goal to take a 2-1 lead. On the defensive side as always Dino had some fantastic saves that kept us in the game. The Dinamo continued to play hard which eventually led to a second half goal to make it interesting. Fortunately, we were able to hold on for the win.

Final Score 2-1

I would give Sergei the nod for "Player of the Game." I believe he stayed in for the entire game up front (even though he is not 100%) and scored both goals. That works for me!
